Scottish holiday...

We are back from Scotland.... we spent 1 1/2 weeks in Aberdeenshire und Banffshire.... 

First we stayed at the lovely Coynachie Guest House nr Huntly - a perfect few days to unwind and relax with fantastic breakfast and lots of nature around to work said breakfast off.... ;-) But as we chose to relax, I will have to have more exercise now. 

Wir sind wieder zurück aus Schottland. 

Wir haben 1 1/2 Wochen in Aberdeenshire und Banffshire verbracht. 

Zuerst waren wir im entzückenden Coynachie Guest House in der Nähe von Huntly - wo man sich perfekt erholen kann mit einem fantastischen Frühstück und genug Natur rundrum, um dieses auch wieder abzuarbeiten... Da wir uns allerdings eher fürs faulenzen entschieden haben, muss ich mich wohl jetzt wieder mehr sportlich betätigen. 

As mentioned before, we simply had to go to Loch Muick again.... 

Wie angekündigt, waren wir auch wieder am Loch Muick...

A trip to Ballindalloch Castle. 

And a fantastic day out at the Huntly Falconry Centre. A pretty unique experience!

In Huntly haben wir die Falknerei besucht. Eine ziemlich einzigartige Erfahrung!

On Saturday we went on to Banff, where we had rented a cottage for the week. 

Samstags ging es weiter nach Banff, dort haben wir ein Cottage für die Woche gemietet.

Our cosy living room fireplace.... very good in the cold evenings.... ;-)

Norfolk Churches

East Anglia is full of churches of all sizes. They’re all very impressive, but a lot of them are in danger of being abandoned. The yearly maintenance is so expensive that in fact a great deal of them are already given up.

A lot of parishes in Norfolk are looking for support or hoping to find someone to put these buildings to another use. They’re hoping to preserve the buildings which are so important to English villages.

In East Anglia gibt e seine Unzahl von kleinen und größeren Kirchen. Sie alle sind wunderschön, doch eine Menge davon sind in akuter Gefahr. Der jährliche Unterhalt zwingt viele Gemeinden dazu, sich nach Alternativen umzusehen und ihre Kirchen einem anderen Zweck zuzuführen. Doch viele dieser einzigartigen Bauwerke sind schon aufgegeben.

Living on the edge...

Living in Happisburgh (Norfolk, UK) is living on the edge. 

The North Sea is a ever hungry beast that doesn't stop at fences, walls or ramparts! 

The streets ends like being cut off and "the Cliff House" is literally a house on the cliff.  

In Happisburgh (Norfolk, Großbritannien) lebt man am Abgrund. 

Die Nordsee ist ist wild und gefräßig, Zäune, Mauern oder Wälle können sie nicht aufhalten. 

Die Straßen enden im Nichts und das "Cliff House" ist sprichwörtlich ein "Klippenhaus"

An evening in the Norfolk Marshes

We visited this outstanding nature-reserve that is situated at the north of the Norfolk coast.

It was amazing! We saw ducks and gooses, we saw coots and waders...we heard a lot of sandpipers but they’ve been too far away to take pictures. The smell of salt and sea, the rustling of reed and the ongoing sound of birds and insects all around us...just wonderful.

An einem sonnigen Abend im März besuchten wir die einsamen Salzmarschen an der Nordküste von Norfolk. Ein wunderbares Erlebnis. Enten, Gänse, Blässhühner, Watvögel und jede Menge Sandpfeifer – die waren allerdings zu weit weg um ein anständiges Foto von ihnen zu machen.

Der Geruch von Salz und Meer, das Wispern des Schilfes und das ständige Geräusch von Vögeln und Insekten um uns herum – einfach herrlich!

What an amazing show indeed.

Danny Boyle's hand right from the beginning - he has a thing with bells....huge bells!!
He really did a great job and I'm thankful that I had the opertunity to meet him even if it was for a very brief moment at the stagedoor of the National Theatre in London. I'll never forget!

Over the last years I watched many Opening Ceremonies (but never really finished one) but this one was something special. My most favourite city in the world and its wonderful people on the centre of the world. 

The Show represented all the things I love about Great Britain. If I had to choose a country to live in either than my own, it would've been the UK!!!

When I read about all the places the Olympic flame had travelled I was very much aware of all the places I already saw in England, Scotland and Wales (I've never been to North Ireland) but also how many places I haven't seen! I have to chance that! J

Was für eine tolle Show!! Danny Boyle hat sich selbst übertroffen und ich bin sehr froh, dass ich die Möglichkeit hatte ihn, wenn auch nur kurz, an der Bühnentür des National Theatres in London kennen lernen zu dürfen. Ich werde das nie vergessen!!

In den letzten Jahren habe ich so manche Eröffnungsfeier gesehen, aber nie vollständig. Diese war eine ganz besondere für mich, spielte meine Lieblingshauptstadt und ihre wunderbaren Einwohner die Hauptrolle! Die Show repräsentierte alles, was ich an Großbritannien so liebe. 

Das olympische Feuer war ja rund um die Insel unterwegs und mir fiel auf, wie viele der Orte ich schon sehen durfte...aber viele habe ich auch noch nicht gesehen!! Das muss sich ändern!!

Hunstanton is very popular amongst the sea-loving tourists! There's a lot of stuff going on, but it has it's quiet places as well!

Hunstanton ist ein typisches Touristen-Küstenörtchen, aber es hat auch seine ruhigen Ecken!!
